MQHA Year End Awards

Additional Information

MQHA Year End Award Rules (revised 2015)

To compete for MQHA Year End Awards, the following criteria must be met:

  1. All exhibitors and All Owner(s) must be members in good standing of MQHA prior to earning any year end points. Memberships can be purchased at any MQHA show or prior to the shows by completing and mailing an application form with appropriate payment to the MQHA Membership Director. For individual youth classes this is not necessary, however, in order to compete for the All Around Youth, All Around Novice Youth and All Around Small Fry year end awards, exhibitors and owners must be members in good standing with MQHA.  To be a member in good standing all members must also be member of Manitoba Horse Council or equivalent (meaning Saskatchewan Horse Federation or Alberta Horse Federation, etc.)
  2. Must compete in 4 MQHA approved shows in order to qualify for a year end award.
  3. To compete for Youth Year End individual class award, including Small Fry; the exhibitor only needs to be a member of MQHYA in good standing and attend 2 MQHA approved shows.

Beside membership requirements and amount shows, the following applies in order to qualify for MQHA Year End All Around Awards for Open, Youth and Amateur.

  1. In order to qualify for an all around in the open division the horse must meet the requirements of rules SHW 803.5, SHW803.6, and SHW803.7.
  2. In order to qualify for an all around award in youth and amateur divisions, the horse / exhibitor combination must meet the requirements of AQHA rules SHW 803.5, SHW803.6, and SHW803.7.
  3. To qualify for the all around Small Fry, all points from all classes will be used, thus the exhibitor with the most amount of points will be deemed the hi-point all around.

AQHA rules SHW 803.5, SHW803.6, and SHW803.7 are listed below for review:

SHW803.5 To be eligible for all-around honors, a horse in the open division, amateur in the amateur division, select amateur in the Select amateur classes or youth in the youth division must compete in at least three AQHA-approved events in one division – open, amateur, Select amateur classes or youth – in three or more categories.

SHW803.6 The winner of the all-around award is determined by adding points earned by each horse in the open division, or contestant/horse in amateur, Select amateur and youth in every approved class in which it placed in the top nine. The horse in the open division, or contestant/horse in amateur, Select amateur and youth, having competed in at least three of the approved events in three or more categories and earning the greatest number of points shall be awarded the all-around trophy.

SHW803.7 Green western riding, green trail, green working hunter, green jumping, green western pleasure, green hunter under saddle and boxing points do not count toward the all-around trophy.

Should a class in an age category not be offered or if an age category is combined (example youth 13 and under and youth 14-18 or Amateur and select amateur or junior and senior) those points earned go towards the exhibitors or horses substantive.

EXAMPLE: Amateur Select Hunt Equitation and Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation are combined, an Amateur Select riders points earned will go towards their Amateur Select year end award.
